We worked with the founders of Our Time Kitchen, Chef Kiah and Chef Cat, to envision renovations for Our Time Kitchen’s new home in the Old Goucher neighborhood.
They support minority women and marginalized genders in building food businesses by lowering systemic barriers and creating access to resources in a supportive environment.
Through our ASTA program, we looked at building modifications required by code for the building’s new commercial use and created a conceptual design.
The project partners hired a local architecture firm, Present Company, to continue design work and to create the construction document drawings. Demolition and construction work began in the fall of 2021.
Our Time Kitchen opened in 2022 after renovating the first floor and exterior site.
They built a commercial kitchen with a by-the-hour rental program to support businesses taking the step from home cooking to being fully permitted, reducing the business owners’ upfront investment.
After being involved with this project at the very beginning, we are excited to see it reach implementation. We look forward to seeing how Our Time Kitchen’s services support the development of small food enterprises in Baltimore, helping business owners grow alongside their businesses and overcome many of the barriers and challenges they might face.
