Tell us about your experience at Neighborhood Design Center — what was your proudest accomplishment or achievement?

During my time at the Neighborhood Design Center, I had the privilege of engaging closely with various communities to enhance the tree canopy in Prince George’s County.

Some of my proudest achievements were reaching out to underserved communities, expanding the canopy cover in the county, and educating residents about the numerous benefits of trees. Additionally, we focused on diversifying street tree plantings to ensure resilience and functionality within our ecosystem.

It was immensely rewarding to witness the positive impact of our efforts in fostering a healthier and more vibrant environment for the community.

Give us a professional update — what are you doing now and is there a recent accomplishment or achievement you want to share?

Currently, I serve as the Conservation and Restoration Director at Howard EcoWorks. I primarily lead and manage various restoration projects, including stormwater management, woodland restoration, and tree planting initiatives. Additionally, I oversee operations at the native plant nursery and manage the Seeds of Change program in partnership with the Howard County Department of Corrections. As part of my role, I also conduct tree health assessments.

I am pleased to share that I recently obtained my pesticide license and the CBLP-2 certification, further enhancing my skills and qualifications in the field of conservation and restoration. These accomplishments reflect my ongoing commitment to professional development and my dedication to making meaningful contributions to environmental stewardship.

As a thought leader in the industry, what is your vision for the built environment?

My vision revolves around fostering a greener and healthier living environment through increased education, outreach, and community engagement. By empowering communities with knowledge and involving them in the decision-making process, we can collectively work towards creating sustainable and resilient spaces that enhance quality of life.

Now that you are well into your career and the industry, is there advice you might share with others trying to enter the space?

Reflecting on my career journey, I advise aspiring professionals entering the space to recognize the unique dynamics of each community, neighborhood, and individual. Embracing flexibility, adaptability, and empathy is key to effectively addressing these diverse needs and challenges.

Additionally, understanding that the preparatory work preceding any project is just as crucial as the post-project efforts. Success in our endeavors hinges on thorough preparation and a commitment to the long-term process of creating positive change.
