Community-Led Street Mural Design at Seat Pleasant Elementary

Slide 1 of 4

We recently spent the afternoon at Seat Pleasant Elementary, where students helped shape the future of their neighborhood through art, mapping, and storytelling.

Together, we talked about how street murals can do more than beautify a space. They can help people slow down, feel safer, and build pride in their community.

Students shared how they travel to school, mapped their routes, and identified intersections that feel busy or stressful. Their ideas and drawings will directly inform the design of a new ground mural that reflects their experiences and vision.

This is what community-led design looks like: listening first and learning from those who know their communities best.

We asked students to doodle ground mural designs. This is what they drew!
