NDC VISTA Volunteer Mikah Zaslow Says Good-Bye

After a year with NDC as a VISTA Volunteer, Mikah Zaslow is moving on. We’re sad she’s leaving, but happy to hear that she is joining Hamilton-Lauraville Main Streets this fall to continue her interest in urban planning.

Mikah worked intensively with the Waverly, Charles North, and Abell communities. She kicked off her year by organizing an Energy Fair for the Harwood and Abell communities where organizations and businesses provided information to residents about how to make their homes more energy-efficient. She coordinated a Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative block project for the 3200 block of Barclay, where volunteers provided design assistance for energy-efficient improvements and design elements that increased community engagement.

Working with Man Alive, Inc, Mikah spearheaded the development of a community garden, orchard, and memorial near their offices in Charles North. The garden will provide an opportunity for horticultural therapy activities for Man Alive’s clients, who are recovering drug addicts. The garden coordinator at Man Alive, Inc. will continue the development of the garden after Mikah’s year is with NDC is complete.

NDC has partnered with Greater Homewood Community Corporation for the past two years on the hosting of VISTA Volunteers like Mikah, and we are pleased to be continuing the partnership next year as well.
