Co-Design in Action with Belvedere Improvement Association

What does co-design look like in action? It looks like neighbors gathering at the Govans Library to imagine the future of a long-vacant lot on York Road—not just to give feedback, but to lead the conversation.

The Belvedere Improvement Association (BIA) is reimagining the “old diner site” on York Road —not with a preset plan, but with open ears and open minds. No agendas. Just community-led visioning and possibilities shaped by the people who live, work, and care for this corridor every day.

This is what it means to reclaim space for the neighborhood, by the neighborhood.

With ideas ranging from green space to pop-ups, the possibilities are as diverse as the voices shaping them. We’re honored to support BIA’s bold step of owning land and designing on their own terms as they move from defense to design leadership.

See the community engaged in imagining their own space.
