Tree Mapping in Maryland

Cottage City, Maryland tree canopy mapping

In honor of the first day of spring, we’re talking about tree mapping — a powerful tool for maintaining urban canopy health and expanding tree shade in our communities.

Tree mapping pinpoints trees’ locations and tracks their health, allowing cities to manage their urban forests more effectively. By identifying gaps in coverage and assessing tree conditions, we can make informed decisions to strengthen our green infrastructure.

Tree mapping isn’t just data — it’s a roadmap to a healthier city. See the tree-formation in Colmar Manor below.

Thanks to Maryland’s Tree Bill, funding is available to support these efforts. And with planting season coming to a close, now is the time to get trees in the ground and invest in a healthier, more resilient environment.
