Langley Park: Estamos Juntos en Esto

We’ve been working with Casa De Maryland on placemaking efforts in Langley Park since 2019. In 2020, Covid-19 disproportionately affected the community and our plan to provide Public Art was paused during the hardest months.

However, with some ingenuity, we were able to push through with the understanding that we’re in this together.

By the fall, we managed to move things forward with the community garden project on CASA’s property by securing a historic entry permit and developing the design with a newly formed Garden Committee. The garden was installed in early January by Green Forever Landscape and CASA and the community are planning to start growing in the spring! Being that Langley Park is one of the zip codes most affected by COVID-19, we are happy to provide an addition to outdoor public space that will create more activities for the community to engage in while remaining distanced.

Additionally, we worked with property owners, local artists Edgar Reyes, Clara Cornelius, in collaboration with CASA’s youth group Mi Espacio to create a series of artworks which were installed by Duo Graphics on residential buildings in the Villas at Langley. Clara Cornelius, one of the artists created messaging - ‘We are in the Together’ in English and Spanish to support healing and togetherness in this very difficult moment for community members.

While we are still in the midst of the pandemic, we are proud to say that our commitment to working with community holds strong. We are creating new ways for members to engage with one another, and providing brighter pathways as we navigate our neighborhoods. Thank you to our volunteers Kelley Henderson and Clara Bichon for helping this project a success.
