How to Plant a Tree

Believe it or not, fall is actually the start to the ideal tree planting season for our area!

It takes a lot of energy for a newly planted tree to establish itself and grow roots, so when planted in spring or summer, trees are also spending energy on growing new leaves, photosynthesizing, and trying to make it through the heat - that’s stressful!

But in fall and winter, deciduous trees aren’t putting that energy into their leaves, and instead all of their energy can go into root growth. Planting in fall and winter means the trees will have more time to establish and prepare themselves before the taxing heat of spring and summer!
