Toxic Overburden is a powerful, youth-driven, interactive exhibit documenting over a century of environmental injustice faced by the Curtis Bay community in South Baltimore. The area, burdened by more than 70 industrial toxic facilities, serves as a stark example of ongoing environmental violence.

Designed by Benjamin Franklin High School students in collaboration with architects from the Neighborhood Design Center, this exhibit uses interactive maps, historical timelines, photography, and compelling displays to educate visitors and inspire collective advocacy. It also challenges attendees to envision sustainable, equitable solutions, including worker benefit agreements.
