About Bruce Willen, designer

Bruce Willen was the lead graphic designer on the Old Goucher Vision Plan NDC Community Design Works team. The Plan is here.

Bruce is Principal and Founding Partner of Post Typography, a Baltimore-based creative studio specializing in graphic design, illustration, custom lettering, and conceptual typography with additional forays into art, apparel, music, curatorial work, and design theory.

With over a dozen years of professional experience in design, writing, and photography, Bruce has led projects ranging from major national branding campaigns and websites to rock concert posters. A 2002 graduate of and current adjunct faculty member at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Bruce is also a frequent contributor to Baltimore’s art scene and its music scene as a member of the band, Peals.

Since cofounding Post Typography with Nolen Strals in 2007, Bruce has developed concepts and led the studio on major branding and advertising campaigns and other projects for clients including The New York Times, U.S. Green Building Council, John Legend & The Roots, and Random House. Bruce’s design work has received numerous awards and has been featured in such books as Ellen Lupton’s Graphic Design: The New Basics, Phaidon’s Area 2, and Taschen’s Contemporary Graphic Design, as well as a monograph by European publisher Pyramyd Éditions. With Nolen Strals, Willen co-authored and designed Lettering & Type: Creating Letters and Designing Typefaces from PA Press.
